The results are in and the first divisional tables for the County Champs are published in today’s Angling Times as the race begins to make your county team and do battle for the £10,000 first prize.
Over 600 anglers are already in contention across 40 counties, all scoring points from their weekend open matches last weekend and, as you read this, results from the Easter Bank Holiday are being tallied up to produce next week’s tables ¬ when there will be a whole lot more names added to the list!
Leading the way following a win at Larford and second at Woodland View is Mosella man Chris Cameron, his 30 points seeing him top the Gloucestershire division, while Norfolk matchman Warren Martin plundered his local fisheries to score 28 points with a win and a third.
Behind them are dozens of anglers with 20 points or more, meaning one win could catapult them into the lead. However, there are months to go before the leagues are tallied up for the final time and, with a packed summer match programme ahead, the lead in every division will change hands umpteen times!
“This is just the sort of start we envisaged,” said Angling Times Editor Richard Lee. “We’ll have thousands of anglers fishing each weekend and scoring points but already you can see by a quick glance at the tables how close it will be and how many anglers who never really grab the headlines are in contention. We’ll be publishing updates tables every week in AT so anglers can keep tabs on how their league is going and how their neighbours are getting on as well.” Remember, only matches fished at weekends or on bank holidays count for scoring and they must be reported to AT’s network of match correspondents for them to be eligible. Their contact details appear on each of the regional results pages, but if in doubt you can always contact AT direct to submit the result and claim your points.
