Sandra Scotthorne retires from international match fishing

Double world ladies champion Sandra Scotthorne announced her retirement from international match fishing duty last week after a glittering career during which time she won 15 caps for England.

Sandra (49) won five team golds and two individual bronze medals, as well as being crowned world champion twice, the last time being at Furzton Lake, Milton Keynes, i 2003.

“I thought about retiring a couple of years ago, but team manger Tommy Pickering persuaded me to stay and help the younger squad members,” explained Doncaster-based Sandra.

“I’ve called it a day because I want to be a bit more selfish with my own fishing. I’d like to thank Tommy and Dick Clegg, without whomI’d never have won 15 caps for my country,” said Sandra, who’s thought to be the only freshwater angler to have had six consecutive section wins in the World Champs.
