Catch 22 complex produces brace of 40lb carp in 24 hours

In a memorable 24-hour period Adrian West helped himself to a fantastic brace of forties from No. 2 Lake on the Catch 22 complex in Nofolk, with a common of 46lb 4oz and a leather of 41lb 3oz gracing his net.

After a blank first night, the 45-year-old Angling Direct employee decided to move swims to one that gave him better access to the centre of the lake, where he baited the end of a bar at 40yds with a scattering of boilies.

In the early hours of the morning he was awakened by an upper-double, then just over an hour later he re-acquainted himself with an old friend – the lake’s Big Common – which he caught last June at 44lb. “The fish hasn’t visited the bank since last August, and at a new lake record and personal-best weight I certainly wasn’t disappointed to have caught it again,” he told Angling Times.

“The rest of the day passed without event, but at 1.30am my margin rod burst into life, and following a long tussle lasting around 30 minutes I netted an incredible 41lb 3oz leather – another fish that hasn’t been out since August. This is the first time it’s broken the 40lb barrier.”

Both carp were fooled with Premier Baits Matrix bottom baits offered on size 8 Fox Arma Point hooks and 12ins Korda Hybrid hooklinks.
