Angling Times/Van Den Eynde Clubman Supercup 2009 round two draw

Seconds out round two!

Through ice, snow, gales and rain, over 100 clubs from across the country have battled through to the second round of this year’s Supercup and this is where they’ll discover just who is stood in their way to the semi finals and possibly a dream shot at the title this July.

You’ll see that half a dozen ties are still to be fished, re-scheduled victims of February’s big freeze and by the time you read this they should have completed, giving us the full line up, which will appear in next week’s Angling Times. If your club are already through though, take a look at your region, check out the opposition and start making plans!

Who's in the melting pot?

The cream always rises to the top they say, and in the Supercup this is generally true. A host of former champions and finalists are in position, eyeing up a return to JCB Lakes, including reigning kings Hull Fish Trades, who have a tricky away tie against Carr Lane Social and Barton Kingfishers. Previous champs Hemsworth Angling are at home against Rotherham Paving Specialists with their Blue comrades fishing away to Team Hallcroft.

Fellow Yorkshiremen Mosborough Tackle Box Red, runners-up last year, will be on their travels against Bank End and staying in the north, Alliance & Leicester Liverpool, Supercup winners way back in 2000 are at home to Jacob’s AC.
Into the Midlands, the likes of Steven’s Fishing Tackle, White Hart AC, Wade’s MG and Knighton Angling are all in the hunt while another previous winner, Royal Mail Northampton do battle at home against Finedon AC. Finally in the south, four of last year’s finalists are in the running but it’s been eight years since a side from the south, Ringwood DAA, lifted the trophy. Could this be the year of the southerners? All will be revealed…

What happens now?

Home-drawn clubs (the first club in each tie printed) will shortly be receiving contact details for their opponents but to summarise, ties must be fished by Sunday May 17 to allow qualifying teams the opportunity to practice for the semi finals. Ties are still eight-a-side fished on a points basis with the home team choosing the venue. A full list of rules are available from AT on 01733 465803 or by clicking Here.

If you’re an away team, sit tight and await that phone call – once the match is organised, the rest is in your hands – good luck!
