Goulder's Good Form Continues

THIS stunning 3lb 13oz perch set a new personal best for this year's Drennan Cup contender Darran Goulder during a session on a new, relatively unfished stretch of the Great Ouse.

Darran tempted the striking specimen on his only bite of the day, having put together a decent net of two-pounders to 2lb 14oz only the day before.

The 23-year-old Petts Wood, Kent-based specimen angler has managed some impressive catches of tench, bream and barbel so far this seaon to establish himself as a front runner in this year's Drennan competition.

“After the big bag of two’s on Saturday, I returned on Sunday with another 50 worms and two pints of red maggots," explained Darran.

"The water was up and coloured from recent rains, so it was a case of fishing the slackest water I could find, in a bid to discover where the fry might be laid up.

"The bite was very finicky, which I put down to the low temperature of the water,” added Darran, who used a 1oz quivertip and 4lb line straight through to a size 6 Korda Wide Gape hook.
