The severe wet weather has left its mark on the nation's rivers, with no fewer than 87 flood warnings and 185 flood watches issued by the Environment Agency as water levels peaked today.
Flood warnings are issued when homes and businesses are expected to flood, while flood watches are issued when flooding of low-lying land and roads is expected.
Virtually every major barbel river in the country has flooded and there are rarely better conditions for targeting barbel in January than can be found nationwide at present.
But always remember safety comes first - some anglers rope themselves to immovable objects higher up the bank while fishing in the worst floods.
And the window of opportunity is limited with high pressure systems due next week which should herald the arrival of colder, more typical January weather.
