We say...

Nestled in the beautiful countryside of rural Devon, Stafford Moor is a seven-lake complex to please anglers of all styles and abilities.

Two of the lakes cater especially for specimen-carp anglers – Beatties Lake and Lodge Lake – with both holding carp to over 30lb.

Lodge Lake is fast building a reputation as one of the best runs waters in the South West.

For many years this lake was overlooked by visiting carpers, most choosing instead to target the larger fish in Beatties.

That has all changed this year, however, with an explosion of 25lb-plus carp and a new lake record of over 30lb.

Not only are the carp in this lake getting bigger, but it’s possible to catch as many as 20 fish in a 24-hour session – all averaging mid-double figures.

Tactics

Tactics for the water focus mainly around boilies and pellets, and these hungry fish can get through a lot of bait.

Solid PVA bags with short braided hooklengths are a reliable tactic to get a few takes, especially when they are injected with Korda Goo.

For those looking to build a big hit of fish it’s worth spending some time spodding bait out to an area big enough to fish three rods on.

The bottom of the lake is fairly clean but there are certainly hotspots and areas worth noting. Take a look at our detailed lake map and pay this little rural gem a visit if you’re in the area.
