Six feeder tips for fishing to islands

AS the water warms up the fishing gets better and better – and nothing beats casting a feeder on the money up to an island and seeing the tip wrenched round!

Here's some tips for fishing to islands...

Bright hookbait

In clear water a stand-out hookbait gets you more bites. A 5mm yellow Wowser will catch everything. For bigger carp, use a 7mm or 9mm size.

Mix up your pellets

I like to have a mix of pellets. A 40/60 split of 2mm Dynamite Sweet F1 and Original Amino pellets adds colour and flavour and binds well to the feeder.

Speed things up

I use a bait spike with Wowsers. It speeds baiting up and catches me more fish. Compared to using a band, results are miles better!

Match feeder to slope

Where the gradient is shallow a 24g Method feeder is ample to stay put. A lighter feeder makes little noise and has less chance of spooking fish.

Give pellets a squirt!

To the water used to soak the pellets I add Dynamite Baits’ Chocolate Orange liquid, eight capfuls per bag of pellets. Be careful not to overdo it.

Be in and out quickly

As things warm up, the time between casts is shortened.

I aim for five to eight minutes, but less if I am getting plenty of bites and indications.
