An incredible day session saw Luke Edwards bank three fish for almost 130lb.
The Wolverhampton angler headed to The Avenue in Shropshire and left a few hours later with two thirties and a 54lb mirror to his name.
Luke told Angling Times he was “blown apart” as the session just got better and better.
He said: “I arrived at around 7.30am and after a quick walk around I set up in a swim I have been baiting with my friend Chris Caddick. After the good January I've had at the venue I started where I left off.
“After two hours I had a lovely 36lb 10oz mirror out of the blue and was absolutely made up, but what was about to happen next blew me apart. I re-cast the rod and spodded some hemp and boilies out, and after about five minutes I had a very strange take which seemed to indicate the fish was trying to get rid of the hook. I leant into a dead weight and after about two minutes the fish motored off to the end of the lake.
“After 20 minutes I had it under control and after a tense battle my friend Paul Viner slipped the net under what I described as a brute – a fish known as Black Scar at 54lb. We quickly did the photos and returned her home – I was ecstatic!
“After re-casting the rods a few hours passed and the other rod was away. After another tense battle I slipped the net under a 38lb stunner.”
Luke fished chod rigs made with Fox 7SR hooks and 35lb Rigidity Trans Khaki. He used 4oz distance leads to reach a spot at about 70 yards and baited heavily with mixed Mainline boilies. His hookbaits were Mainline Milky Toffee pop-ups soaked in pineapple juice.
