Teenager sets new personal best with 200lb catfish

A trip to the River Ebro saw Sam Lee smash his personal best with this huge 208lb catfish.

It was the 14-year-old Chester-based schoolboy’s third visit to the Spanish waterway and he targeted a stretch at Riba Roja under the expert guidance of Ebroxperience’s Lee Franchetti.
He initially upped his old best of 133lb with a fish of 155lb and after several cats ranging from 30lb to 125lb he hit the jackpot again.

He said: “The huge fish took over 35lb minutes to land and I was exhausted, but ecstatic, by the end of the fight.”

Sam’s winning set-up consisted of a livebait fished on a 6/0 hook and 150lb braid over a bed of 22mm halibut pellets.
