When teenager James Fox netted this beautiful common for a friend last year he just knew he had to catch it himself.
And on only his fourth night of the winter, the 18-year-old succeeded during a 17-hour session at Norfolk’s Cobbleacre Lakes.
He said: “This is my new pb common and I’m over the moon! I netted and photographed this fish for my mate Jack last year and from then on I wanted to catch it! I made it my winter target this year and on just my fourth night of the winter I nailed her.”
James, who was fishing on the 3.5-acre Mario’s Lake at the holiday complex, added: “The moment was made even more special by Jack being there to return the favour for me. She put up an immense scrap and I only saw her when she popped up in front of the net.”
James, who works as a fire systems engineer and lives in North Walsham, fished to a cove in an island just 20 yards out. He baited with a dozen 12mm Sticky Vor-Tex boilies and fished a white Sticky Signature pop-up over the top on a rig made with 9ins of Korda N-Trap Silt and a size 6 JRC 360 hook.
