Huge chub from River Lea at end of season

One of the UK’s finest big chub fisheries produced yet another huge fish in the shape of this 8lb 1oz specimen for species expert Mike Staines.

Incredibly this is the Chub Study Group members second specimen over 8lb in an impressive list that includes 17 fish over 7lb barrier and showed up during a session on the River Lea in Herts.

The local angler started his session on King’s Weir by introducing feeding eight pieces of squeezed bread into his swim and then it was a legered matching hookbait that induced the all-important bite from the huge fish.

“As soon as I lifted into the fish it disappeared into the snags, so I plunged the rod tip under the water and managed to get her free and into the net,” he said.
