A day-ticket fishery that boasts one of the largest stocks of specimen roach in the UK has revealed the lake now holds huge specimens to 3lb 8oz.
The winter netting operation carried out on the Abbey Lake, which is part of the popular Lemington Lakes complex in Gloucestershire revealed that it not only holds fish weighing in excess of 3lb, but now also boasts over 100 roach over 2lb.
Respected fisheries consultant Andrew Ellis, who carried out the netting has been nurturing the population of fish in this venue for many years and has also revealed that he also removed 1,500lb of small carp from the 3-acre lake in order to minimise competition for food and ensure the resident roach keep growing.
“The roach at this venue are some of the biggest and best examples of the species I’ve ever seen and they will only get bigger,”said Andrew, who owns AE Fisheries.
“It’s taken a lot of hard work to get here and it’s not just the biggest fish that you can see in the pictures that’s exciting but the sheer number of roach over the 2lb mark that we netted this time around.
But it’s not just the Abbey Lake that’s got big roach anglers watering at the mouth as the venues Priory Pool also boasts fish of a similar size.
“It’s very rare to have two venues on one complex that both have roach like this available on a day-ticket,” he continued.
“My dream is to have fish to over 4lb and judging by how these fish are thriving it’s not a case of if, but when.”
Day tickets to fish on Abbey Lake cost £8.00 per day and to find out more about the complex visit: www.lemingtonlakes.co.uk or call: 01608 650872.
