Sean Youngman bagged his first-ever 30-pounder on only his second visit to an in-form day-ticket fishery.
The 31lb 8oz mirror came Mustang Lake at Norfolk’s Airfield Lakes – one of only a few venues to still be producing decent fish in the recent cold snap.
Owner Rich Wilby told Angling Times: “Sean used Mainline Cell boilies and fished a snowman rig over 30 free offerings. He’s a local lad and it was his second time at the lake and his first-ever thirty.”
Elsewhere at the 14-peg lake, which was created in 2008 and contains more than 200 carp, Kurtis Burton had to wait for the ice to melt before he could cast out and catch a 28lb 8oz mirror. The fish fell to a high-attract hookbait over a bed of Sticky boilies. “He had to wait all day for the ice to go before he could get his rods in,” said Rich.
Another angler to taste success at the Diss venue was local angler Ray Flook, who snared a 29lb 8oz common from peg six. Ray was fishing a day-only session and used a simple bottom-bait rig with a PVA bag of boilie crumb.
