“The best session I’ve ever had” is how Mitch Atwood described banking four thirties in an eight-fish hit at Suffolk Water Park.
The 24-year-old found the fish in obliging mood at the day-ticket venue’s Big Lake and kept the bait going in to take full advantage. His 72-hour session eventually yielded four thirties to 39lb and two 29-pounders.
“It was the best session I’ve ever had, and probably will ever have,” Mitch told Angling Times.
“I knew I wanted to be on peg 12 and I was lucky enough to get in there after a bloke had left. I put in about 1.5kg to 2kg of boilies to the reed line straightaway and got my first fish, a 15lb common, at about 8pm.
“A few hours later I had Single Scale at 32lb and then at about 5am I had Scotty’s Poppy at 34lb. The next day I didn’t have a single bite or beep and I did wonder if the fish had moved off, but I put out another 1.5kg of bait and hoped they would come back overnight. Again at about 8pm, exactly like the first night, I had another bite and that was a 29lb mirror.”
Mitch, from Harwich in Essex, went on to land a new personal best in the shape of Nemo at 39lb later that night. He said: “It’s the same fish that was my previous personal best back in April at 37lb 12oz, so it’s put on over a pound since then.”
The third and final night produced a fourth thirty, alongside another 29-pounder. Mitch presented his Bedlam Baits Nutty Mix boilies on hinged stiff and fluorocarbon D rigs.
