Just 20 minutes in the right place proved enough for Martin Pick to bag this 49lb 6oz mirror.
The 2013 Angling Times Carp Angler of the Year snared the new personal best from a small channel at Berkshire’s Wellington Country Park.
Martin told Angling Times: “I was fishing in a swim with no action there was a small channel at the side of my swim and I saw a ghostie in there. That evening I baited it up with a handful of DT Cold Water Mix with Green Beast boilies and when I looked in there the following day I saw the ghostie again but now it was with a few others.
“I wound in my rods and decided to have a go for them for an hour. I underarm flicked two rods into position and after only 20 minutes one of the rods melted off and after an epic battle that tested every part of me and my tackle one of the big Welly mirrors lay in the bottom of my net and was a new personal-best mirror of 49lb 6oz.”
Martin fished a reverse combi rig constructed from 20lb Korda N-trap Semi Stiff and 25lb Korda Mouth Trap with a size 6 Choddy hook. He flicked the rigs out with 1.5oz leads and used 15mm washed-out pink Cold Water Mix pop-ups.
