41lb 10oz Weston common keeps captor smiling

Craig Randall smashed his personal best with this 41lb 10oz common carp from Shropshire’s Weston Park.
Taking advantage of one of the syndicate venue’s open-access weeks, the Wolverhampton angler tempted the specimen at just after midnight on his first night.
“This was above and beyond my wildest fishing dreams,” said Craig. “I haven’t stopped smiling!”
Settling on a swim that offered good marginal features, Craig baited with a mix of 14mm and 18mm Alpha boilies from Natures Baits and fished a matching
pop-up over the top.
“Shortly after midnight there was action,” said Craig.
“My right-hand rod tore off. In total darkness my senses quickly got moving – grabbing my rod, I realised then that I could have a decent-sized fish on the end!
“After a tough battle I was relieved when I finally managed to slip my net under the fish.
“It was now very clear that this stunning common carp was going to be a personal best.
“Aware of the commotion, my good friend Dunc had now joined me to help and he said, ‘I think you’ve one of the big girls, Craig’.
“My previous pb was 25lb 4oz and I quickly realised this vision of a common was going to beat it.
“Sure enough, it tipped the scales at a whopping 41lb 10oz – I was on cloud nine!”
Craig used a multi rig featuring a size 8 Endzone hook and a Castaway foam nugget to aid his presentation.
