32lb common carp from Wasing Estate

Craig Runham needed to pour hot coffee over a frozen padlock to access Berkshire’s Wasing Estate, but once inside was soon rewarded with this 32lb 10oz common.

Shalford Lake had only done three bites in 13 weeks but despite below-freezing conditions, Bracknell-based Craig tempted the fish within five minutes of casting out.

The Korda-backed rod said: “I couldn't believe it, my first fish of 2015 and on my second night of the year. It was also the biggest common I had caught from the lake since my campaign had started. To add to it, it was bloody freezing and it was January. A very special capture indeed!”

The fish fell to a Mainline Cell pop-up fished on a hinged stiff rig made with Korda Soft Hybrid, 25lb Mouth Trap and a size 6 Choddy hook.
