After spotting a couple of fish showing Lee Collings went on to land this chunky 39lb 4oz common from the Carp Society’s Farriers Lake.
The Midlands-based Phat Fish consultant put two rods close to where he had seen the activity the day before but had to wait six hours for his first bite which resulted in a 27lb common.
He said: “The bottom wasn’t very clean but I found a spot that was just about fishable close to a weed bed at around 50 yards range. The lake hadn’t been fishing well and very few fish were getting caught so I was delighted with the upper-twenty.”
The best was still to come, however, and the following day the big common made its mistake from the same area.
“I had kept the baiting to a minimum and Spombed out 30 crushed Mainline Baits Cell boilies glugged in the matching hookbait enhancement dip for added attraction,” he explained.
To combat the weed Lee used a long 17 inch 25lb ESP Strip Teaze hooklink attached to a size 6 ESP Barbless Curve Shanx hook.
