A day-ticket common and mirror gave Trevor Kershaw an 85lb brace in in a mad half hour.
The 24-year-old bagged Quarry Pool’s Big Common at 45lb 12oz and a 39lb 12oz mirror in successive casts at Staffordshire’s Baden Hall complex.
The Newcastle-under-Lyme rod, who bagged a 32lb common the day before, fished 6ft zigs in 8ft of water from peg five.
“I still can’t believe it,” said Trevor, “I had the 39lb 12oz mirror and while that was in the net I recast the same rod. Half an hour later it rattled off again with the 45lb common.
“I caught the common 20 months ago and it’s put on 3lb since then so I reckon it could get to 48lb or 49lb fairly quickly.”
The foundry worker used black foam dipped in Tor Baits’ Jaffa Dip and presented his rig on 15lb Drennan Double Strength and a Korda Choddy hook.
