Roving session produces 14lb 7oz barbel

This 14lb 7oz barbel was landed by Thomas Finney during a session on a Bedfordshire river.

The 22-year-old South African, overcame a bout of flu and headed to a flooded stretch of the waterway for an evening session where he adopted a roving approach and fooled the specimen with a legered meat setup.

“I fished a couple of swims for about 45 minutes then moved on until I found a nice, likely looking swim, where I received several plucks on the rod tip before my tip wrenched round and I struck into a solid weight,” he said.

Thomas has been in a rich vein of form on the river, banking numerous double-figure barbel last year including a fish of 16lb 4oz in August.
