Protect your valuable fishing gear from £9.99

One of the world’s most successful crime-fighting specialists has joined the fight against tackle theft with the launch of a unique security package specifically for anglers.

Angling Times can exclusively reveal that the Angling Trust - fishing’s governing body - has formed a new partnership with SmartWater Technology LTD, who have designed a £9.99 pack that enables the police to trace items of stolen tackle.

The kit features a forensic liquid which is painted onto items and assigns them with a unique code that is registered to the owner. Once applied SmartWater is virtually impossible to remove and can only be seen under ultraviolet (UV) light.

Police forces across the UK, together with SmartWater’s own investigators, regularly visit second-hand outlets to search for marked property, making it increasingly difficult for thieves to sell on stolen goods.

Phil Cleary, Chief Executive of SmartWater Technology LTD, said: “This product is a powerful crime-fighting weapon that has aided hundreds of criminal convictions and maintains a 100 per-cent conviction rate in court. Thieves are acutely aware of what it is and will avoid it at all costs.”

A special one-off deal of £9.99, which includes VAT and delivery, is available to Angling Trust members now.

“Tackling theft is one of our main objectives and we are delighted to be working in partnership with world-leader SmartWater to provide members of the Trust with cutting-edge forensic technology,” said Dilip Sarkar, Fisheries Enforcement Manager of the Angling Trust.

“The use of SmartWater, which is increasingly feared by the criminal fraternity, has demonstrably reduced other areas of crime - and we are confident that will be the case once anglers start using the product.”
