Visiting a new swim paid on the River Kennet paid off handsomely for Paul Codman as he slipped the net under this 14lb 14oz personal best barbel.
The Fleet-based rod has scoured the waterway for hotspots in recent years and decided to pitch up in a peg that he had previously ignored on numerous occasions.
A bed of boilies dipped in sausage sizzle glug were introduced mid river and the pungent scent soon drew in the lump.
“The fish felt heavy and stayed deep throughout the fight. When it surfaced it came up on its side and I could see the depth of the fish and it looked huge!” explained Paul.
