Weekend crowds at in-form Orchid Lake did nothing to stop Paul Jenkins eclipsing his personal best twice in 40 minutes.
The Cardiff rod made it third time lucky at the Oxfordshire venue during a hectic few hours having blanked on his previous two visits.
On the second night of his Friday-to-Sunday session in the Top Dug Out swim, the 30-year-old caught four fish between 8pm and midnight.
“It was my third visit to Orchid and my first in winter,” said Paul. “I knew it could be a tricky water so to catch two new PBs and four fish was brilliant.
“My personal best was 31lb but I beat that at about 10pm on the Saturday night with a 32lb 1oz mirror. Then 40 minutes later I had one of 34lb 3oz, and while those two were in the flotation sling and net waiting for the bailiffs to come round for photos my other rod went off with the 23-pounder.”
Paul fished at 110 yards and baited with sweetcorn, groundbait and Mainline Cell boilies. The fish fell to a combination of Cell and plastic corn hookbaits fished KD and snowman style on size 8 Korda Kurv Shank hooks.
