Sonny Chander resumed where he left off at Linear Fisheries with the capture of one of Manor Farm’s prize residents.
The West Midlands gas-fitter caught the elusive Small Plated from neighbouring St John’s last autumn and returned to the Oxfordshire complex last week to bank Mr Ridiculous at 40lb 6oz.
The 35-year-old told Angling Times: “I haven’t been on the bank since October last year and was itching to get on what is my favourite venue.”
Sonny found a couple of spots between 90 and 100 yards out and baited with Mainline Cell, Nash Riser Pellets and sweetcorn.
He added: “I caught the big girl on the first day of the session. My rod tore off at 7.30am – no bleeps, just a one-toner! I struck in to it and it felt good. I was playing the fish for a good 20 minutes and it was kiting everywhere, trying to bury itself in the weed.
“It was a struggle, and we were both knackered, but eventually the fish was ready to be swiped into the net. When I saw it was one of the ‘A-Team’ I was over the moon and it was a new PB by 6oz.”
Sonny, who thanked nearby anglers for helping to photograph the fish, went on to land another six carp over three nights, including four twenties to 28lb 10oz. His successful rigs featured his own Planet Semi-Wafter hookbaits mounted on size 6 Nash Wide Gape hooks tied to combi rigs featuring Nash Missing Link and Fox Coretex.
