There has always been much hype made about the match only waters at Messingham Sands Fishery, however, recently it is the day-ticket lakes which have been making the headlines with some huge weights being recorded.
Match and pleasure sessions on the Oak Tree Pond have been the highlight at the North Lincolnshire venue this winter with nets topping 100lb. A recent open on the 50-pegged lake saw a whopping winning weight of 184lb of carp weighing between 2-8lb taken on corn and pellet. It’s also not long range pole work which is proving decisive like on a lot of commercial venues during the winter, as anglers on here are finding the carp feeding at just 4m out. Silverfish catches have also been exceptional, with 20-30lb nets off roach, skimmers and perch coming out on most of the lakes. If you want to target the silvers exclusively then simply feed small pellets or preferably chopped worm and caster, and start by fishing your rig on the deck.
Two other day-ticket lakes, North and South (both 25 pegs) have also showed form this winter with anglers reporting some nice catches of quality roach and perch to 2lb. Maggots or casters fished on a waggler or pole will work well on both these pools, feeding little and often over the top. For the biggest roach though it is recommended you fish a bomb or feeder. Expect fewer bites but bigger fish.
