First visit to Pavyotts Mill produces two 40lb-plus carp

Ryan Butt had the session of a lifetime on his first visit to Somerset’s Pavyotts Mill.

Fishing the eight-acre Maze Lake, the Exeter angler managed two forties and a 29lb common during the last 24 hours of his two-night stay.

He told Angling Times: “It was a brilliant session!

“It all started to kick off going in to day two. At about 3pm I had a 42lb 6oz mirror and throughout the next 24 hours I netted four fish including a 42lb 6oz mirror, a 42lb mirror and a 29lb common.

“The mirrors put up a good fight, diving deep. All the fish were caught in the margins in about 6ft of water on a solid bottom.”

The 41-year-old tiler baited with about half a kilo of 10mm Mainline Cell and Sticky Bloodworm boilies and presented dumbbell bottom baits on KD rigs incorporating Korda N-trap Soft and size 8 wide-gape hooks. The rigs were presented on 2.5oz inline leads and were tipped with PVA bags filled with glugged pellets.
