First session on water produces lake record

Lee Chatfield’s first session on a Sussex syndicate water produced this lake record pike of 23lb 9oz.

The Gardner Tackle-backed rod from West Sussex caught the impressive predator on a joey mackerel mounted on size 6 trebles and a 28lb wire trace which he’d cast to a spot at 25 yards.

The same trip also resulted in a brace of 2lb-plus perch weighing 2lb 9oz and 2lb 12oz. Lee said: “It wasn’t a bad session considering that I had never fished the place before!”

Lee took the perch on low-resistance paternoster rigs consisting of a lobworm hookbait on a size 6 Gardner Wide Gape Talon Tip hook and a 5lb Target fluorocarbon hooklink.
