A debut session on a popular specimen water proved memorable for Jason Savage when he banked this 61lb catfish.
The Widnes-based angler made the short journey to Crewe’s Fox Lakemore Fisheries and set his stall out on Horseshoe Lake.
With his biggest ever fish weighing in at 18lb, he was determined to set a new personal best and put together a durable leger rig baited with a 16mm halibut pellet topped with a white squid and liver pop up boilie.
After an uneventful night the alarms eventually came to life at first light. The fish tore off towards the snags but a patient approach saw him win the 20-minute tussle.
