IF you fancy a trip to Wold View Fisheries, the place to be right now is on the Gold Lake. The Claxby venue is in red hot form with nets close to a ton being recorded in recent matches.
Gold is the largest lake on the fishery and its 41 pegs have twice the space between them as compared to most commercial fisheries. There’s also an island which you can fish from and is accessed via a footbridge. You can expect good year-round sport on this lake thanks to the variety of species it holds including barbel, carp, crucian carp, tench, roach, rudd, ide, perch, bream and skimmers. However, shoals of carp averaging around 4lb are what you want to target in order to enjoy a bumper weight.
Fishing the bomb or small feeder towards features such as the aerator seems to be the best bet on this pool as the carp hang out around these when the weather is colder. For bait in winter, bread discs or pellets are all worth a try but try not to feed too much as the carp won’t like too much food.
If you don’t fancy carp, try the venues Silver Lake. All three of the islands on this 37 peg lake can be fished from, and due to the wide variety of species in the water most tactics will score on here especially pole and maggot which is accounting for double-figure nets of roach.
