Josh Bennett proved that you don’t have to camp out for days at a time to catch big carp when he landed this stunning 37lb mirror from a tricky venue in the Cotswolds.
With limited time available to fish, the Burford-based rod has only been fishing quick day sessions and focused a lot of his efforts in to finding the areas where the fish were holding up.
“The lake I have been targeting is close to home and thankfully hasn’t been too badly affected by the never-ending rain and flooding,” he said. “Location is paramount in winter and once I’d discovered the carp’s whereabouts I’ve been able to bait the area on a little and often basis with Tails Up Pro Fish boilies.”
Arriving on a Saturday morning with his rods already baited and clipped-up to his spots Josh quickly had his rods in position with minimal disturbance.
“When fishing through the winter on limited time and for only a few bites a trip, you have to use reliable tackle and bait. Having confidence in what you’re doing makes everything else easy - all you have to focus on is fish location, feeding them and then actually fishing for them.
“The weather was incredibly mild for the time of year and I experienced a fantastic winter session banking eight fish in just seven hours. The highlight was a stunning linear weighing 37lb which looked glorious in her winter colours.”
Josh took all of his fish on Pro Fish Fluoro pop-up hookbaits mounted on Korda Kaptor Kurv Shank hooks and N-Trap hooklinks in conjunction with a small mesh PVA bag of pellets and crushed boilies.
