34lb common carp off the top

This cracking 34lb 10oz common was caught off the top by Kev Hewitt during a session on Swan Lake on the Northants Bluebell complex.

The Hinders of Swindon general manager also landed two doubles and a fish of 23lb before connecting with the biggest of the trip.

The Bristol-based rod Spombed out a mixture of 6mm and 11mm floating trout pellets soaked in salmon oil and once the fish were feeding confidently, cast out a hair-rigged CC Moore Duo Floater hookbait.

He said: “I’d caught three fish when I noticed that a group of carp were feeding on the mixers which had drifted a couple of swims up. I grabbed my gear and once my hookbait was among the feeding fish it wasn’t long before it was taken. The fish put up a really strong fight and weeded me up on a couple of occasions.”

Kev, who has been in a rich vein of form on the pressured day-ticket water landing 43 carp in eight trips, beat the fish using a size 8 ESP Raptor D6 hook and a 12lb Drennan Double Strength hooklink.
