30lb pike falls to fly at Chew Reservoir

John Horsey proved how effective fly fishing for predators is when he landed this 30lb 4oz pike from Chew Valley Reservoir.

The professional angling guide tempted the impressive specimen on a white and chartreuse EP Fibre Fly from an area of the vast Somerset venue known as Herriots Bay.
He said: “This was my first 30lb pike of the new season and what a cracker it was – it is one of the deepest pike I have ever caught from Chew. Locating the pike has been tricky at times now that have spawned so I have used plenty of petrol up on my boat trying to look for productive areas. That said, my clients and I have already landed over 40 pike on the fly with this the best of the new season so far, but others have been landed to 26lb.”
