24lb pike makes long journey worth it

A 150-mile round trip proved more than worthwhile for John Ashurst as he landed this 24lb 2oz pike from Esthwaite Water.

The Wigan-based predator fanatic made the long drive to the Cumbrian fishery and used a static deadbait in the south basin area of the water to take a 22lb specimen.

Convinced that bigger fish were there for the taking, he returned just days later armed with the same tactics. A number of smaller pike were then landed before he connected with the impressive predator.

Coarse fishing for pike and silverfish on the venue is permitted until the end of March and you can find more details by visiting www.hawksheadtrout.com
