A lucky angler who spent his change from a trip to the tackle shop in a nearby bookmakers has scooped £1.3m on the horses.
Craig Brazier, a keen match angler, picked six correct winners from six separate races to bag a share of a £10.7m jackpot after betting just £2 on a Scoop6 accumulator at his local BetFred. The 39-year-old wheelie bin cleaner from Mansfield, Notts, admitted he would have wagered more on the bet had he not already spent most of his cash on bait.
He told Angling Times: “I usually bet £15 every week but I had a match the next day so spent most of my money on worms and maggots. I feel like the luckiest guy in the world but I am still keeping my job and once I’ve finished celebrating I will continue to fish events at my local stillwaters like Sherwood Forest Fishery and Park Hall Lake. That said, I doubt I will blow loads of my winnings on tackle as I already have what I need.”
Craig is also planning to fish in the next round of this year’s Angling Times Supercup: “Ive been fishing the competition for a few years now with Mansfield Piscatorials, its good fun, however, I’m a bit nervous about the next round as it’s on the Erewash Canal and I’ve never fished a canal before,” he added.
Dale Clark who runs Woodhouse Angling Centre, the shop where Craig buys his bait said: “I am really happy for him, he has been coming in my shop for years as we are situated next door to the bookies. I am just hoping he comes back in now to spend some of his winnings,” he joked.
