First Irish 40lb-plus carp caught

Ireland is better known for its roach, bream and pike fishing, but Andrew Doyle has made history by becoming the first angler to catch a carp over the 40lb-barrier from the country in the form of this 40lb 2oz mirror.

The historic specimen, known as Big Hole, was taken during a 72-hour session on Maynooth Fishey in County Kildare and was fooled with a Mainline Baits boilie hookbait fished in conjunction with a PVA bag of freebies over a bed of hemp and corn.
