The season may only be a few weeks old, but John Davey has already landed three double figure barbel from the River Dove, the most recent being this 15lb specimen.
Arriving at the local stretch of the waterway, the Staffordshire-based 65-year-old found the river a couple of feet up so decided to fish just under his rod tip where the water was a little slower.
Baiting up with a few handfuls of a new boilie he’s testing for Frank Warwick Baits he didn’t have to wait long before his rod slammed round.
He said: “It put up a hell of a fight and just didn’t want to give up. I’ve had a great start to the season and I’ve also landed fish of 11lb 8oz and 10lb 4oz”
John’s successful presentation consisted of an 18ins 25lb braided hooklink and an Atomic Tackle Grabba hook.
