Steve Cartwright smashed his personal best with the capture of this 54lb 2oz mirror from the Monks Pit syndicate water in Cambridgeshire.
After walking round the water the Corby-based rod found a group of carp showing in one area of the venue and fished two rods at short range and one towards a weed bed near the centre of the lake.
The spot was baited with 5kg of pellets and Pyramid Baits PP60 boilies but he had to wait until the following morning for his alarm to finally burst into life.
“It was a slow and heavy fight and when I netted it I thought it looked like a good thirty,” he said. “It was only when I went to lift it out of the water and it snapped my landing net spreader block that I realised it was something a bit special.”
Steve mounted an 18mm boilie hookbait on a size 6 Nash Fang hook and a 7ins Korda N-Trap hooklink.
