This 37lb mirror was the highlight of an eight fish haul taken by Ted Bryan during a three day session on a southern stillwater.
The Sydenham-based specimen hunter had to brave torrential rain but after having a good look around the lake he settled on a swim near a deep, weedy bay where he’d seen fish showing.
He then located a patch of gravel at 50yds range, and fished one rod over this and the other slightly further out at 70yds. Both rods were baited with roughly 300 20mm Nash Bait iC1 and Scopex Squid boilies.
He told AT: “At 1:30am I had my first carp - a 30lb 6oz mirror. As I put it in the sack the other rod at 70yds was away. I played it for a while and then landed a big mirror which tipped the scales at 37lb. That day I had two more fish, a 29lb 12oz mirror and a 27lb 4oz common. I got my traps set again and that night I had a 31lb 6oz mirror followed by fish of 25lb and 24lb 12oz in the early hours of the morning, before ending the trip with a 19lb common on my last day.”
Ted’s winning setup consisted of a Nash 20lb Missing Link hooklink tied to a size 8 Nash Fang X hook and a 3oz inline lead.
