Northallerton DAC Dick Wright Memorial
River Swale (36 pegs)
An overnight influx of 3ft of extra water dampened things down for the Dick Wright Memorial staged on the Scruton and Morton reaches of the Swale and although dropping a foot during the event it was always going to be a hard affair and with no barbel showing anglers relied on chub. Winner, Tony Broder of Great Ayton, drew peg 45 at the bottom of the horseshoe bend and opted to fish the bomb in a nearside slack tempting four small chub for 11-9-0. Runner up Simon McArdle of Brotherton drew above the stepping stones and took a trio of chub for a level 10-0-0 all on the bomb, two taking worm while the other came to meat.
Result: 1 T Broder, Great Ayton, 11-9-0; 2 S McArdle, Brotherton, 10-0-0; 3 J Chew, Aireborough, 8-9-0; 4 B Higgins, Pontefract, 8-3-0; 5 S Beckwith, Leeds Angling Centre, 7-14-0; 6 I Kirton, Yarm, 7-12-0.
NYSD Federation Individual Championship
River Tees, Over Dinsdale (31 pegs)
The river was four inches up at the start and rose another six inches during the match but it was the gale force winds that really did the damage although Yarm Flynns man Paul Stainsby kept up his good form winning off peg 11 at the run out of Girsby bend with 16-2-0. Continually working his peg he took three chub on bomb and meat across adding a quality perch on lobworm backed by 8lb of dace on stick float and maggot. Rob Stubbs of Haughton included a 9lb barbel in his second-placed net of 14-7-0. Sat on peg 8 at the top of Girsby Wood the barbel came to the meat and bomb down the middle supplemented by dace on stick float and maggot.
Result: P Stainsby, Yarm Flynns, 16-2-0; 2 R Stubbs, Haughton, 14-7-0; 3 N Jose, Mary’s Tackle, 13-14-0; 4 E Willans, Darlington Brown Trout, 13-0-0; 5 J Bainbridge, Haughton, 10-10-0; 6 D Reaney, Maver Newman Scott, 10-2-0.
