Rock star lands big porbie!

Rock star and keen angler Cerys Matthews had always wanted to catch a Porbeagle shark, and this week her dream came true after she boated a fine 90lb specimen off the Welsh coast.

The former lead singer with band Cataonia, which enjoyed considerable success in the 1990s, was fishing aboard Andrew Alsop’s boat White Water out of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, when the shark took her whole fish deadbait, suspended beneath a plastic bottle float.

Cerys caught the impressive fish while recording a forthcoming angling programme for Radio 4. It is the latest in a string of big Porbeagles taken by Andrew’s boat, which last October hit the headlines after breaking the British blue shark record when Wayne Little boated a 222lb specimen.
