Dave Magalhaes proved that you don’t need to fish at range to catch big carp with this cracking 42lb specimen mirror caught less than a rod length from the bank of CEMEX Angling’s Road Lake.
The 30-year-old Gerry’s of Wimbledon employee had been baiting two marginal spots and on the first morning of his 48 hour session he landed a 25lb 4oz common. After the disturbance he moved swims to fish over his second prebaited spot, and following a quiet night he received another take on the final morning.
He said: “The fight was uneventful and I thought it was a tench all the way in until a carp’s head popped up.”
Both fish were caught on a balanced tiger nuts tipped with a bit of maize on rigs tied with 3ins 25lb Atomic Tackle Bare-Bak hooklinks, size 6 Grabba hooks and 4oz drop-off inline leads.
