This week the Angling Times has thrown its weight behind Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's Fish Fight campaign in a bid to safeguard our dwindling stocks of sea fish before it's too late.
Around half of all fish caught commercially in the North Sea are thrown back dead as 'discard' - a fact that has outraged and spurred Hugh to fight for urgently needed change to the practice during a rewrite of the Common Fisheries Policy in 2012.
The reasons for the needless waste of such high numbers of fish is mainly due to EU quotas, size limits and there being no market for certain species - and this is the area the celebrity chef believes is the top priority.
In his Fish Fight TV series Hugh has travelled the UK meeting fisherman, conservationists, politicians and supermarket bosses, showing how millions of tonnes of prime fish such as cod, haddock and plaice are thrown overboard, dead.
