Hunt begins for the best match angler in Britain

The 2011 County Championships will have an exciting big money individual champions’ match to decide the best angler in the country following talks with event sponsors Shimano.

That will see the winner of EVERY county taking part in the competition invited to Barston Lakes to fish the one off match on Sunday October 2, the day after the big team final, where £2,000 will be up for grabs for the best angler on the day.

The moves comes following feedback on this year’s inaugural event, which although well received, highlighted the need to reward those anglers that do their talking each weekend and score the most points. With the qualifiers system to decide each country’s team of five it was felt that the top points scorer could be left with nothing to show for their efforts if they failed to qualify.

“You only have to look at who won each division last year and who made it into the team of five to see that very often, the top performer missed out,” said Angling Times editor Richard Lee.

“Thanks to Shimano though we can now announce a match exclusive to the winners. It’s on the Sunday after the team match, which helps make more of a weekend to the finale and the winner can truly say that they are the most consistent angler in the country.” Aside from that two grand for the winner, second will pick up £1,000 and third £500 on top of generous section payouts and the minor placings generated by the pools on the day. Should the top scorer in a league not be able to fish then their place will be offered to the next in line and so on.

“The County Champs has been such a big success in 2010 and this match will only make it bigger and better,” Richard continued. “Points scoring continues, even in this atrocious weather and that really is a credit to matchmen around the country. This extra match will only serve to make the cold and ice all the more worthwhile.”

However, those points will count for nothing if you don’t register for the event. If you have scored County points, you need to register with us online HERE. All it takes is a few seconds, a simple e-mail and you will be registered and a part of the event for 2011.
