The winner of Decoy Lakes annual festival had to be decided on weight after the top two tied on points and it was venue regular Martin Freeman that eventually walked off with the title.
The JVAC rod started the week off at the Cambridgeshire complex in fine form after he landed 215lb of F1s on pellet shallow to tie up a lake and section win but day two was far from perfect.
With the wind howling viciously on Willow Lake, Martin was forced to fish a feeder and could only muster fifth on the lake, severely hampering his chances of the overall win.
Despite the setback Martin went all out to finish as high as possible and turned it around on the final day, bagging 175lb from peg 15 on Beastie Lake for a lake win and a 7 point and 500lb 12oz total.
Fellow venue expert Jon Whincup also recorded 7 points, but his weight couldn’t match Martin’s total, landing 439lb 6oz over the whole festival.
