Big mullet falls to floating bread

Mullet are notoriously difficult to catch, so Hampshire’s Steve Ansel had to use all of his skill to tempt this 4lb 12oz fish which fell to a piece of floating bread crust.

He landed the specimen during a stint on the River Arun as he edged the bait down his swim after spotting the fish 25yards below a bridge.

The Bordon-based angler used a rig that was constructed from 8lb mainline, a size 10 hook, a set-up that also proved the downfall to another thick-lipped mullet that tipped the scales at 3lb 12oz.
