Big barbel so close to new river record

The barbel record for the river Rother in West Sussex has come within just an ounce of being broken following the capture of this 15lb 2oz specimen.

Caught by Hampshire angler Dave Chambers, the fish fell to a groundbait feeder rig and hair-rigged pellet combination.

Dave, a 49-year-old landscape gardener has been trying to beat his old personal best of 13lb 13oz for 12 years, and backed up the catch with another fish of 8lb 8oz.
