A string of carp to 3lb late on in the margins gives match win at Langwith Lakes

Cold days leading up to this match certainly had a detrimental an effect on the weights with only 12lb needed to get in the money, but there was a familiar name leading the way as Mal Bailey added more points to his County Championships tally in the
West Yorkshire division as he weighed in 37-4-0.

Drawing peg 17 on Bethany’s Lake, Garbolino Elton man Mal initially started on the long pole line to the island with pellet, but things were slow with only a few small carp showing.

After two hours Mal made the decision to switch to the margins, fishing just down the slope into the deeper water where he’d been feeding micro pellets.

That switch started to pay dividends as he found the first of what turned out to be a string of better-quality carp, with the Castleford angler landing fish to 3lb as he made hay in the closing stages fishing a 6mm expander pellet to keep out Stef Armitage, who filled second spot with 25-12-0 at peg nearby peg 25, maggot to the island, seeing the Team Glum rod take small carp in bursts throughout the five hours.
