'Bait and wait' pays off for Andy

The famous Aldermaston Mill stretch of the River Kennet provided Andy Webber with a real red letter day in the form of an eight-fish haul, topped by a fine brace of barbel weighing 10lb 1oz and 11lb 1oz.

After catching just two small barbel and in his first three visits to the fishery, Andy arrived for his fourth crack armed with four pints of hemp and six pints of red maggots.

He began his session by baiting up the swim, before resting it for a couple of hours. The strategy worked the oracle, with bites coming thick and fast straight from the off.

“The more bait I threw at them, the better it was!” said a delighted Andy, who also lost two fish.

His winning set-up included a Drennan 12lb Sinkbraid hooklink and a size 12 Pallatrax hook.
