Your chance to win £5k in Maver Pairs

Entries for the 2010 Angling Times/Maver Pairs Challenge are filling up nicely as the quest to pocket the £5,000 first prize begins!

Open to any pair of anglers, the competition takes the form of 25 qualifiers around the UK starting in April, ending at Maver Larford Lakes in mid-August when the 50 successful pairs from the rounds go head-to-head over five hours to pick up the hefty prize and title of 2010 champs.

The 100-peg qualifiers are running on top commercial waters across the country, from which the top two pairs on section points will go through to the final.

Aside from the money, the winners will also get top-of-the-range Maver tackle and trophies, and those prizes extend all the way down to fourth place, where there’s a grand up for grabs.

Lake winners, runners-up and thirds will also get cash, along with section firsts and seconds, and as an additional bonus, all finalists will get an invite to fish the Sunday after the match at Larford in the Maver British Pole Pairs Championships, a pole-only event run along exactly the same lines as the Pairs Final.

“The pairs is now a fixture in many anglers’ diaries and sees all levels of angler from England international to club angler making the final,” said AT’s Richard Grange.

How many qualifiers can I enter?

Pairs can enter as many of the 25 qualifiers as they wish, but they will have to pay to enter each separate match.

How many qualify from each match?

There will be two pairs from each match qualifying for the final. These will be the top two pairs from that qualifier, decided on section points, and in the event of a tie, section countback then overall weight.

What about the final?

Held at Maver Larford Lakes on Saturday, August 14, the Specimen, Arena and Match Lakes at the Stourport complex will be used, with pairs having one man on the Match or Arena Lake and the other on the Specimen Lake. 50 anglers on each lake, fishing in sections.

Overall section points will be used to decide the winners, with the lowest score winning, and this lucky pair will receive the £5,000 top prize, trophies plus state-of-the-art Maver tackle, with cash, tackle and trophies for the second and third pairs and cash for the fourth pair. There will also be section money paid out 100 per cent from the pools on the day, as well as hefty amounts for the top three anglers overall on each lake.

All finalists qualify to fish a special match the next day at Larford. Maver is putting up cash plus tackle in its Maver British Pole Pairs Champs.

Running on exactly the same lines as the Saturday final, this match will be pole only and is optional ¬ you don’t have to fish if you don’t want to!
